Local Canberrans share their experience with Capital Giving

I met Lesley 18 months ago, and we had an early warm conversation, which inevitably led to her lively description of designing a philanthropic strategy for women in the ACT.  I had been an episodic contributor to several charities, and particularly liked her idea of donors pooling money, for the benefit of local girls and women.  Another attraction was knowing there were no administration fees - that all my annual donation would be used for an agreed purpose.  And so I became one of the original donors, and have enjoyed the updates, social occasions and admired Lesley's continuous efforts to grow Capital Giving. I'm looking forward to a long association with this group of good women, for good women! Megan - Wallaroo
When Lesley first told me about her concept for Capital Giving over coffee quite some time ago, I was immediately motivated by the idea of having a single, clear purpose for me to channel my annual donations into. I decided that every gold coin I received in change would go into a piggy bank and at the end of the financial year that would go towards the cause. For me, being a donor has meant that I feel positive and confident about where and how my donations are shared. In addition, this year I was able to participate in a voting process that enabled me to have significant input into the cause our funds can support. I enjoyed reading the grant applications and was thrilled when my chosen applicant, Country to Canberra, was successful in this process. I am genuinely pleased to have joined this group as it has made me feel empowered to make conscious, considered decisions about to whom and how my donations are distributed, and I no longer feel torn between the plethora of good causes that need my support.Jacqui - Duffy
I love the fact that money I give is kept here in the Canberra region to support local people and local causes. I am passionate about supporting and empowering women to step up and reach their potential, and being able to give to a group that supports women and girls fits well with my personal values. I have also been impressed with the integrity, dedication and vision of Lesley Harris, Founder of Capital Giving. It is rare to find someone who is truly altruistic and who is focused on creating a better community for us to be part of. I am eager to see what we can create through Capital Giving.Lisa - Carwoola
